The history - Molino Borgioli

Late 17th century

The Borgioli family lived and worked in a farm in S. Martino in Campo (today in the municipality of Carmignano).

1751

Leonardo and his family lived and worked in three mills located along the Elzana river in San Michele, Comeana.

1776

In Campione delle strade e fabbriche of the Carmignano community, GioBatta is indicated as a renter of a mill along the Elzana river.

1879

Angiolo and his brothers buy a plot near the Via del Ferro in Cafaggio together with the exploitation rights over the water of the Gora della Romita (aka Gora del Palasaccio). Construction of a new mill with two or three millstones that can produce up to 30 quintals of flour a day.

1932

Purchase of a plot in Prato for the construction of a 70-80Q/24h mill

1933

The mill in Prato (via Fra' Bartolomeo 151) opens for business in 1933 under the name “Borgioli Gino e F.llo”.

1940 – 1942

Expansion of the mill

1943

Inauguration of a modern cylinder section and the reinforced concrete building with wheat silos at the mill in Prato (viale Montegrappa).

1944

The American bombing on 17 January destroys the part of the mill built in 1932.

1945

Gino Borgioli buys his brother’s shares.

1952

Incorporation of the company “Figli di Gino Borgioli”.

1955

“Figli di Gino Borgioli” becomes “Figli di Gino Borgioli di Franco e Mario Borgioli”.

1963

Incorporation of “Molino Franco e Mario Borgioli”: purchase of a plot and commencement of the works for the construction of a new mill.

1965

Construction of today’s Molino Borgoli in Calenzano, Florence.

1967

Inauguration of the new mill in Calenzano, which grinds up to 1100 Q of durum wheat/24hr.

1974

Expansion of the mill. 30 reinforced concrete cells are built for the storage of semolina and other grinding products.

1983

1 kg packs of Borgioli semolina are introduced in the large-scale distribution.

1988

Expansion of the mill in Calenzano achieving an output of 3200 Q/24h.

1991

The company changes its name to Molino Borgioli s.r.l.

1993

The mill starts producing organic semolina in compliance with Council Regulation (EEC) No 2092/91, i.e. from wheat grown respecting the environment and the plants, using natural fertilisers and without using synthetic substances.

1996

Modernisation of the packaging department with a double automated filling machine.

2003

The corporate form changes and the mill becomes Molino Borgioli S.p.A.

2005

The addition of flour completes the range of Molino Borgioli products available in the large-scale distribution.

2007

The wheat storage capacity is increased by other 6000 tons, for a total of 24000 tons.

2017

Molino Borgioli revamps its image to communicate its values more effectively.
